Hansjörg Schellenberger was born in Munich, Germany, in 1948. His early musical exercises on the practically obligatory recorder were followed by his initial instruction in oboe with the solo oboist of the Regensburg City Theater. At 21 years old, Schellenberger became an oboe pupil of Manfred Clement and was instructed in conducting by Jan Koetsier. He became an oboist in the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1971. In September 1977 Schellenberger regularly began assisting in the series of the Berlin Philharmonic, which made him its solo oboist three years later. He is now the appointed chief conductor of the Okayama Philharmonic Orchestra in October 2013, and recently extended until 2022. The musician has also demonstrated his work on more than fifty CDs with all the major recording firms. Together with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, they will perform Haydn’s B-flat majors, Mozart’s F-Oblet and String Quartet in F major, K.370 15’, and Louis Scheper’s F-Quartet in F major, 31.
