This September, Sylvester Levay & His Friends brings some of Germany’s biggest musical theater stars to Shanghai Culture Square for a one-of-a-kind concert. Expect epic tunes from Elizabeth, Mozart!, and Rebecca, with top-notch performances by the likes of Annemieke van Dam, Mark Seibert, and Lukas Perman. It’s the only stop outside of Vienna, so don’t miss it!

Every September marks the anniversary celebration of Shanghai Culture Square, and this year they will be celebrating their 14th birthday. This year also holds special significance as it marks the 80th birthday of Sylvester Levay. Since the success of the musical concerts of Elizabeth and Rebecca in 2024, Shanghai audiences have become more familiar with Levay’s work. In fact, Shanghai has become a city Levay holds dear, and he often describes returning to Shanghai as "coming home" in interviews. This concert, Levay and His Friends: German Musical Theater Stars Concert, is honored to be the only performance outside of Vienna.

The concert will feature seven classic masterpieces: Elizabeth, Mozart!, Rebecca, Beethoven's Secret, Marie Antoinette, Lady Bess, and Crest of the Royal Family. Over thirty stunning excerpts will take the audience on a journey through the golden era of German musical theater.

In 2019, Levay and His Friends: German Musical Theater Stars Concert had already made waves, and now, in this updated version, nine prominent stars of German musical theater—Annemieke van Dam, Mark Seibert, Lukas Perman, Yngve Gasoy-Romdal, Drew Sarich, Barbara Obermeier, Milica Jovanovic, Andre Bauer, and Wietske van Tongeren—will perform alongside nearly thirty musicians to bring these iconic works to life. The stage production will be even more spectacular than in 2019, with dancers from Germany and Austria, as well as the Culture Square Choir, joining the cast. The result will be an explosive visual and auditory experience that amplifies the grand musical energy of the performance.
