One of the first bands I was pointed in the direction of when I stayed one summer in Thailand back in 2018 was Solitude is Bliss, the five-piece band from Chiang Mai that has been kicking around for over a decade. A bold mix of psychedelic music, dusty folk, and indie rock aplomb that recalls acts like Omnipotent Youth Society. Mixing social contemporary with melodies straight out of the Beatles handbook, it’s both intimate and grand - a sprawling, poetic, and rollicking jam session that immediately hooks you in. They’re heading to Yuyintang Park this Friday to celebrate the new label Halo! alongside two of Shanghai’s best new live acts - post-hardcore trio LYSOMA and the gut-punching punk act Moya. Hell yeah.
