The Asian Youth Orchestra is bringing the heat with Mahler's epic Symphony No. 5 and Rachmaninoff's finger-breaking Piano Concerto No. 3. These young musical gunslingers - the best under-23 players across Asia - will be joined by piano phenom George Li for what promises to be one hell of a night at the symphony.
These aren't your average music students - we're talking about the crème de la crème of young Asian talent, selected from over 1,500 auditions across the region. For their 35th anniversary blowout, they're tackling two of classical music's most demanding showpieces. Mahler's Fifth swings from funeral march to joyous triumph, while Rachmaninoff's "Rach 3" (made famous by that piano movie) will have George Li's fingers flying at warp speed. Since nabbing silver at the Tchaikovsky Competition, this Boston-born whiz kid has been wowing crowds worldwide - now it's Shanghai's turn.

The Asian Youth Orchestra represents the highest caliber of young musical talent across Asia, with members rigorously selected through competitive auditions. For this special 35th anniversary concert, Music Director Richard Pontzious leads the ensemble through Mahler's emotionally charged Symphony No. 5, followed by piano sensation George Li taking on the virtuosic demands of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. The program showcases both the orchestra's maturity and the exceptional skills of these young musicians who are making waves on international stages.
