A new generation of rockers that have been slowly putting the moves on the music scene in Shanghai and its surrounding neighbors converge on Specters for some fun. And while these bands may not be household names yet, there’s some true talent in this lineup, with a couple of bands I sense are on the cusp of breaking through. Acts include evocative and raw Suzhou indie rockers Acid Room, continuing their hot streak this year; rustic indie rockers Disordered Clay, who offer a sound that’s tight, lean, and with the perfect mix of angsty edge and tender discourse. Also on hand are Fierce Medusa, from Tongji University, whose pulpy mix of post punk and charred indie rock has plenty of attitude; and last but not least, Abstract Abstract, who dabble in discordant sounds, irregular beats, and lengthy repetition.
