Get ready for a powerhouse piano performance. Denis Matsuev, the Russian virtuoso famous for his explosive energy and technical brilliance, is returning to Shanghai. He's bringing a massive program that spans from Bach to Prokofiev, promising a night of sheer musical intensity.
Program is subject to change.

Denis Matsuev is renowned for his fierce and powerful piano style, with his vigorous and rapid key strikes consistently thrilling audiences. On November 13, the master pianist, who represents the peak of the contemporary Russian piano school, will return to the stage with a sincere and substantial program. He will deliver a thoroughly riveting performance for the audience at the Oriental Art Center, challenging the limits of technical virtuosity and emotional intensity.

The recital will showcase Matsuev's mastery over a wide range of musical styles, from the Baroque period to modern music. The program opens with Bach's "Chaconne in D minor," a work with rich harmonies and complex textures that, in Busoni's bold arrangement, sounds more like a large-scale orchestral or organ piece transcribed for piano. The stormy and passionate Beethoven "Appassionata" Sonata is a perfect vehicle for Matsuev's signature powerful touch and emotional tension. In contrast, Grieg's "Poetic Tone-Pictures," which incorporates elements of Norwegian folk music, displays introspection and poetry, with the notes painting a vivid soundscape of Nordic natural scenery.
