Alter’s back this Halloween with Phantom Hotel — a full-sensory takeover at Thompson Shanghai Expo’s rooftop club, TOTS. Expect immersive soundscapes from Japan’s Taku Hirayama and a lineup of Shanghai’s top selectors, plus a live performance by avant-garde dancer Qinran. Think surreal energy, hypnotic beats, and skyline views that blur the line between dream and reality.

As night descends on Shanghai, the borders of reality dissolve and the Phantom Hotel opens its doors. On October 31, Alter. invites guests to check into the unknown for a Halloween journey between illusion and style at Thompson Shanghai Expo’s rooftop club, TOTS. Here, music is the gateway to mystery, and every beat stirs the senses.

Headlining the night is Taku Hirayama from Japan, known for his fluid, trippy grooves that transcend genre and perception. His sets transport audiences into meditative spaces, blending experimental layers with hypnotic rhythm. Supporting acts include Weschen, Olivier K, Olivier G, and Chabuduo, each weaving their own sonic textures through the night. Rounding out the experience is a live performance by Qinran, one of China’s most innovative contemporary dancers, whose movement bridges modernity, Taiji, and martial art forms.

The setting — TOTS, perched atop the Thompson Shanghai Expo — offers panoramic views of the Huangpu River and skyline, setting the scene for a surreal, elegant Halloween night unlike any other.

Taku Hirayama has built a deep connection between sound and audience through years of performing in top clubs and festivals around the world. His sets are smooth, expansive, and forward-driving — pushing beyond genres to reshape time and perception. Through his platform Junktion, he continues to introduce respected names and emerging artists from across the global electronic scene.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Wes Chen has lived in China since 2000, and has unconventionally become one of the most influential hip hop personalities in the mainland. Founding member, host, and DJ of China’s first hip hop radio show called“thePark”, Wes Chen has expanded his brand of entertainment from radio to the web and TV, and has continues to use his bi-cultural and bilingual voice to promote urban culture to the masses.

OLIVIER K is a music producer and curator based in Shanghai. He founded Vox Music and Coda Studio. Olivier performed as DJ in Paris and Shanghai at Nano, Le Baron Paris, le Paris Paris, Palais de Tokyo, and Alcazar, Le Baron Shanghai, Roza, La Barra, and Alter Parties.

OLIVIER G is a Shanghai based music director and partner of Vox Music, he’s been doing for brands, clubs & bars around the city since 2017, playing anything from disco & house to hip hop.

Chabuduo is a Creative Technologist based in Shanghai. Passionate about music and visual performance, he has been playing Electro, Nu & Dark Disco in Bars and Clubs in Shanghai since 2014.

A leading figure in China’s new generation of dance artists. With a background in street dance and 17 years of professional stage experience, Qinran integrates contemporary movement, Taiji, martial arts, and flow art, exploring the relationship between humans and nature through motion.
Thompson Shanghai Expo stands on the banks of the Huangpu River in the heart of the Expo district. The hotel merges industrial heritage with cosmopolitan design, blending art, fashion, and music into a hub of creativity and culture. Its rooftop club TOTS offers a striking 270° view of the city, perfect for an elevated Halloween night above the skyline.
