Eric Lu rose to international prominence after winning First Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018 at the age of 20. Since then, he has signed with Warner Classics and collaborated with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (at the BBC Proms).
He has performed at major venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Queen Elizabeth Hall London, San Francisco Davies Hall, and Wigmore Hall London, where he appears for the seventh consecutive year in 2025. He has also been a recurring guest at the “Chopin and His Europe” Festival in Warsaw and made his debut at the La Roque-d’Anthéron Festival in France.
Born in Massachusetts in 1997, Eric Lu studied at the Curtis Institute of Music under Robert McDonald and Jonathan Biss, and also trained with Dang Thai Son. He was a BBC New Generation Artist (2019–2022) and a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant (2021).
His latest recording on Warner Classics, released in 2022, features Schubert’s Sonatas D.959 and D.784 and received international acclaim, earning BBC Music Magazine’s “Instrumental Choice.” His previous album of Chopin’s 24 Preludes and Schumann’s Geistervariationen was hailed as “truly magical” by International Piano. In early 2026, he will release his newest album featuring the complete Schubert Impromptus on Warner Classics.
