This one’s a big year-end blowout for families: Baby Loves Chinese Opera is turning ten, and they’re celebrating with a massive cross-genre showcase featuring national-level intangible cultural heritage inheritors and multiple Plum Blossom Award winners. Expect everything from Peking Opera and Sichuan Opera face-changing to Henan Opera “Monkey King” stunts and live traditional magic—plus interactive moments and a full-on New Year carnival in the theatre. A rare chance to catch so many top-tier artists and opera styles in one go. Suitable for all ages.

For ten years, Baby Loves Chinese Opera has introduced families to more than a dozen traditional opera genres. To mark its tenth anniversary, the New Year production Chinese Opera! Ten Score! brings together highlights from seven major styles, including Henan Opera, Huangmei Opera, Peking Opera, Sichuan Opera, Shanxi Opera, Pingtan, and classical magic — all designed to engage young audiences while staying true to the art forms.

The lineup features three national-level intangible cultural heritage inheritors and several winners of the prestigious Plum Blossom and Peony Awards. Audiences can expect Henan Opera martial-arts scenes from “Havoc in Heaven,” Huangmei Opera’s “The Female Prince,” Sichuan Opera face-changing, the traditional Rolling Light act, Shanxi Opera’s double-whip and knife-skills performance, as well as Pingtan’s improvised storytelling and classical magic with playful audience interaction.

To celebrate New Year’s Eve, the theatre will also host the “East-West Comedy Carnival,” created with AEMI International Theatre Festival and artists from Edinburgh, featuring roaming performances and lighthearted activities throughout the venue. The show is designed for audiences of all ages — from kids discovering opera for the first time to adults who enjoy seeing the classics revived in fresh, accessible ways.
