Description

The Borodin Trio, renowned for its exceptional artistry, is back after a long hiatus, performing classic Romantic trio works by Rachmaninoff, Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky. Don’t miss this legendary ensemble's return to the stage with an unforgettable evening of Russian chamber music.

About the Show

Formed in 1976, the Borodin Trio is one of the most influential and celebrated ensembles in the world of classical chamber music. Known for their mastery in Russian chamber music traditions, the trio has captivated audiences around the globe. After the passing of one of the founding members, Rostislav Dubinsky, in 1997, the trio went into hiatus. But now, marking the 50th anniversary of the group's formation, the new generation of the Borodin Trio is set to embark on a world tour, bringing their impeccable musicianship back to the stage.

This concert features some of the most iconic Romantic piano trios, including Rachmaninoff's Piano Trio No. 1 in G Minor, Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, and Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio in A Minor, Op. 50. Each piece is a reflection of the depth and emotional power that defines Russian chamber music.

Program Highlights

  1. Rachmaninoff: Piano Trio No. 1 in G Minor
Composed at the age of 18, this piece, also known as the "Elegiac Trio," is a single movement that showcases the melancholic beauty that would define Rachmaninoff’s style. The trio's rich, sonorous textures echo the composer’s later works.
  2. Mendelssohn: Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 49
This is one of Mendelssohn's most celebrated works, merging classical forms with the spirit of Romanticism. Filled with passion and lyrical beauty, it is often referred to as the greatest piano trio since Beethoven.
  3. Tchaikovsky: Piano Trio in A Minor, Op. 50
Tchaikovsky’s only piano trio, written in memory of his dear friend Nikolai Rubinstein, this work is grand in scale, rich in emotional depth, and a masterpiece of Russian chamber music.
