Ufa, Russia’s Где Фантoм? (translated to Where is Phantom? In English) bring their rustic stripped-down post-punk sound to China this month. A minimalist cold wave base, melancholy basslines, a restrained drumbeat rhythm, and evocative vocals - it’s a lighter, more lived-in take on the well-worn genre - one that feels like it was born out of smoke-filled bars late at night. We might be oversaturated with Russian post-punk bands at this rate, but damn does it sound good to the ears.
