Lebanon Hanover return to Shanghai as part of their 2026 China tour, performing at MODERN SKY LAB on September 4. The duo’s live show follows their long-running DIY approach rooted in cold wave and post-punk traditions.
Lebanon Hanover is a duo formed by Larissa Iceglass and William Maybelline, who first connected through Last.fm in the late 2000s before meeting in Sunderland, England in 2010. Their early recordings were created in a highly DIY environment, shaped by minimal production and an intentional raw aesthetic.

Their music draws from 1980s post-punk and cold wave traditions, influenced by artists such as Xmal Deutschland, DAF, Kraftwerk, Malaria!, and Trisomie 21. The band’s creative process is guided more by instinct than formal planning, with an emphasis on preserving original recordings and maintaining a sense of immediacy in their sound.

Since their debut, Lebanon Hanover have consistently worked with a minimalist production philosophy, avoiding excessive polishing in favor of retaining the original texture of each recording. Their lyrics often reference literature and explore recurring themes such as love, death, and existential reflection.

Larissa Iceglass
Co-founder and vocalist of Lebanon Hanover. Her vocal style is often described as fragile and restrained, shaped by a preference for older recording aesthetics and emotionally direct delivery.
William Maybelline
Co-founder of Lebanon Hanover. Responsible for instrumental and production elements, his approach emphasizes minimalism, repetition, and maintaining raw takes in final recordings.
Lebanon Hanover’s Shanghai show offers a rare opportunity to experience their stripped-down live format, which stays close to their original DIY ethos. With no elaborate staging or production, the performance focuses entirely on sound, presence, and atmosphere. For audiences interested in cold wave, post-punk, or minimalist live aesthetics, this is a direct and unembellished presentation of the duo’s work as they have consistently defined it over more than a decade.
