LUMENS is a live performance that blends electronic music, percussion, visuals, and interactive technology into what feels like a playable video game on stage. Two musicians are randomly selected as “players,” unlocking different sound modules in real time as immersive visuals react around them.

LUMENS is designed as a live music video game performed in front of an audience. Throughout the performance, two musicians navigate a series of musical “levels,” gradually unlocking percussion, melody, bass, and harmony modules until the full system is activated.

The show combines electronic music, percussion, custom digital instruments, motion capture technology, laser frameworks, and multi-screen visuals into a fully immersive environment. Visuals are generated live in real time, responding directly to the musicians’ actions and the sound being created on stage.

Audience participation is also built into the experience. Viewers are invited to choose teams using colored glow sticks while rhythms, visuals, and live interaction evolve together throughout the night.

The first version of LUMENS premiered in Montreal in June 2017 at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT). Since then, the production has toured across North America and Asia, appearing at professional arts platforms including RIDEAU, Contact East, IPAY, and Ontario Presents. In 2018, the show received the Opus Award for Electroacoustic Concert of the Year from the Conseil québécois de la musique.

video Phase is a Montreal-based artistic duo focused on combining music, visuals, and interactive technology into a unified performance language. Their work centers around real-time generated visuals that function as an essential part of the musical composition rather than a background element.

The duo develops its own digital instruments and interactive systems, integrating live performance, digital luthiery, and game-engine-generated visuals. Alongside stage productions, they also create permanent digital installations, immersive projects, and VR experiences.

Since forming, video Phase has presented nearly 100 performances across North America and Asia.

LUMENS sits somewhere between a concert, an installation, and a live game. Rather than following a fixed narrative, the performance unfolds through real-time interaction between music, visuals, technology, and audience energy. For people interested in electronic music, immersive multimedia work, or experimental live performance, it offers a different way of experiencing rhythm and sound — less like watching a show, and more like stepping inside a playable system.
