This minimalist theatre production from Minsk reimagines Alexei Dudarev’s classic play Evening. Centered on three elderly villagers, it reflects on solitude, time, and memory through simple yet symbolic staging. The performance incorporates folk songs and multimedia elements, with Chinese and English subtitles.

Evening is adapted from the 1980s play by Belarusian playwright Alexei Dudarev, widely regarded as a cornerstone of modern Belarusian theatre. Originally staged as a reading, the work was developed into a full-scale production in 2024 by the Republican Theater of Belarusian Dramaturgy.

The story follows three elderly villagers living in quiet isolation after their children have left. Surrounded by the land, the sky, and the faint presence of an old radio, their daily routines unfold slowly on stage.

Through minimalist staging, the production transforms ordinary life into symbolic imagery. Cameras and projections introduce a sense of observation, while suspended miniature tables evoke fragmented memories of village life. The boundary between reality and illusion gradually dissolves, turning simple gestures into reflections on time, memory, and mortality.

This production focuses on stillness and simplicity, using minimal dialogue and visual elements to explore universal themes. With its combination of live folk music, symbolic staging, and reflective pacing, it offers a contemplative theatre experience that centers on solitude and human connection rather than plot-driven action.
