Description

Slava’s Snowshow is a wordless theatrical performance featuring clowning, visual effects, and immersive audience interaction. It returns to Shanghai at MIFA 1862 for a limited run in September 2026. The show is known for its surreal atmosphere and its signature on-stage “snowstorm” finale. Recommended for audiences 8 years old and up.

About the Show

Slava’s Snowshow is a wordless performance built around clowning, physical theatre, and visual stage effects. The production uses expressive movement, music, and surreal stage design to create a dreamlike atmosphere where comedy and melancholy coexist.

The performance includes interactive moments with the audience, such as characters appearing in transparent bubbles, playful scenes involving oversized spider webs, and a final sequence where an artificial snowstorm fills the theatre. Large balloons float into the audience as part of the closing experience.

The work was created by Slava Polunin, a well-known clown artist who began studying mime after initially pursuing engineering studies in Leningrad. He founded the Licedei clown theatre and developed his signature character, Asissai. His work is influenced by mime traditions and artists such as Charlie Chaplin and Marcel Marceau.

Why Go

The show is structured as a non-verbal theatrical experience, making it accessible regardless of language background. Its appeal lies in its visual storytelling, audience interaction, and immersive stage design rather than dialogue or narrative complexity.

It may be of interest to audiences looking for large-scale physical theatre or experiential performances that blend humour, melancholy, and visual spectacle in a single setting. The limited seasonal run in Shanghai also makes it a time-specific theatrical event.
