The Sheep Song is a visually driven theatre work by Belgian collective FC Bergman. Without dialogue, the production tells a surreal story of transformation through physical performance and stage imagery. The show will make its mainland China debut in Shanghai at Daning Theatre.

The Sheep Song is described as a modern parable about humanity’s simultaneous fear of and attraction to change. The production follows a being that is no longer satisfied with its current existence. Feeling that it contains greater potential within itself, it prepares to undergo a transformation in pursuit of a more extraordinary life.

The character, named Ovis Orientalis Avis, attempts to challenge fate, the laws of physics, and even the boundaries of species and aesthetics. Through this journey, the performance reflects on the desire to surpass oneself and the uncertainty that can follow when identity begins to shift.

The production contains no spoken dialogue. Instead, the story unfolds through visual storytelling, physical movement, and poetic stage imagery, creating a theatrical experience focused entirely on what the audience sees.

FC Bergman is a theatre collective from Belgium composed of four artists: Stef Aerts, Joé Agemans, Thomas Verstraeten, and Marie Vinck. The company was founded in 2008 and became associated with Toneelhuis in Antwerp in 2013.
FC Bergman is known for visually striking productions that combine elements of literature, art history, and mythology. Their works often explore the struggles of ordinary individuals attempting to surpass themselves. The company has presented its productions at international festivals including the Festival d’Avignon, Adelaide Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, and Ruhrtriennale. In 2023, FC Bergman received the Silver Lion for Theatre at the Venice Biennale.

The Sheep Song marks the mainland China debut of FC Bergman and will be performed only in Shanghai during this tour. The production is notable for its wordless storytelling and visually driven stage language, offering audiences a theatrical experience built around movement, imagery, and atmosphere.
Recommended for audiences aged 16 and above.
