The Yale Whiffenpoofs, the world’s oldest collegiate a cappella group, make their Shanghai debut with a large-scale concert. Expect an exquisite mix of jazz, pop, classical, and traditional Chinese songs, all performed without instruments by 14 of Yale’s top students.
Founded in 1909, the Yale Whiffenpoofs are the oldest collegiate a cappella group in the United States and pioneers of modern a cappella. This Shanghai concert marks their first large-scale public performance in the city and is part of their longest stay in a single country during their 115+ years of history.

The Whiffenpoofs are known for blending jazz, pop, classical, and traditional repertoire into complex a cappella arrangements, with each member contributing to the group’s musical and performance decisions. For this concert, they will perform three Chinese songs, including the traditional folk song Jasmine Flower and the pop classic The Brightest Star in the Night Sky, along with international favorites.

All pieces adapted by the Yale Whiffenpoofs into a cappella versions. Setlist subject to change.
Seeing the Whiffenpoofs live is more than a concert—it’s a glimpse into a century-old tradition of youthful creativity, cultural dialogue, and human voice mastery. Their seamless harmonies turn each song into an intimate yet global experience, where the line between performer and audience blurs. In a single afternoon, Shanghai will hear echoes of Yale’s historic music legacy, feel the pulse of international friendship, and witness 14 young artists embodying the art of collaboration and passion.
