Getting around: 5 min to Line 2 Weining Road. Line 2 is genuinely the useful one — it runs straight to Zhongshan Park, Jing'an Temple, West Nanjing Road in a few stops, and it's the line you want if you're regularly flying out of Hongqiao or catching the high-speed rail.

The neighbourhood: The compound is unusually green for central Shanghai: flowers in spring, full canopy in summer, ginkgo and the smell of osmanthus in autumn. The north gate opens straight onto the Suzhou Creek greenway, which is a genuinely pleasant place to run. Bingu Plaza and the Xianxia Road food street are both a short walk.

The flat: Bright, warm and characterful rather than a white box. Photos are unedited. What you see is what you get.

· Fapiao can be arranged; let's agree on who covers the tax before we sign
· I speak fluent English, so contracts, viewings and any issues during the tenancy can all be handled in English — no need to bring a translator
