SmartShanghai Housing has been the most established English-language rental platform in Shanghai for over 20 years. We are not an agency — we don’t rent or manage properties ourselves. Instead, we provide a trusted platform where both private users and verified property agencies can post listings.
Because we’ve been around this long, we take verification seriously: every listing goes through basic checks before it’s published. Still, we cannot take responsibility for disputes with landlords, agencies, other users, or the accuracy of every detail in the listings.
Curious about safety concerns or whether prices on our site are inflated?
Since 2003, SmartShanghai has been independently covering Shanghai for the city’s English-speaking community. Our guides are curated by people who’ve lived here for years—honest, opinionated, and free from spam, sponsored rankings, and fluff.
