Description

This is a local hire position based in Shanghai, reporting to the IMBA Recruitment Manager. The Marketing & Recruitment Officer supports all aspects of IMBA program recruitment and marketing, including content creation, social media, data analysis, admissions support, and recruitment events. The incumbent engages with prospective students across various channels, communicates the value of the UBC IMBA program, and works collaboratively with the Shanghai Office team to meet enrolment targets and program OKRs. Excellence in both oral and written communication, sound analytical skills, and a strong team orientation are essential for this role.

About the Program:

UBC Sauder School of Business is one of the world’s leading academic business schools. The UBC International MBA (UBC IMBA) is a 20-month, part-time MBA program offered by UBC Sauder’s Robert H. Lee Graduate School in partnership with the Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Classes are delivered in Shanghai, with a 2-week full-time Vancouver Residency.

Organizational Status

Reports directly to the IMBA Recruitment Manager based in Shanghai. Receives direction from the Associate Director, IMBA, and works closely with other members of the Shanghai Office and the UBC Sauder Vancouver Office.

Work Performed

Recruitment & Events

  • Organizes and executes recruitment fairs and events, domestically and overseas, to support IMBA enrolment goals.
  • Communicates with prospects, follows up with the application process, and acts as the main point of contact to organize coffee chats or class visits, with supervision from the IMBA Recruitment Manager.
  • Creates and delivers presentations to small and large audiences of prospective students at recruitment events and fairs, domestically and overseas, and supports broader UBC Sauder RHL recruitment events.
  • Provides support to the IMBA Recruitment Manager in interactive online chats, webinars, and other virtual meetings with domestic and international prospective students.
  • Engages with early-stage prospective students to answer initial IMBA admissions queries.
  • Arranges UBC ELI English exams and coordinates interviews for IMBA applicants.

Marketing & Content

  • Manage the program’s social media presence, including WeChat and RedNote accounts, by coordinating content planning, publishing, community engagement, and performance tracking.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external agencies, media vendors, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure marketing materials and campaigns are delivered on time.
  • Track and analyze marketing campaign performance, prepare basic reports, and provide insights to support future campaign optimization.
  • Support the creation and adaptation of bilingual marketing materials, including social media posts, event promotions, email content, brochures, posters, and digital ads.
  • Conducts follow-ups with candidates and tracks and reports on marketing campaign progress to the IMBA Recruitment Manager.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and social media performance to identify opportunities for improving audience engagement and lead generation.

Data, Reporting & Administration

  • Works proficiently with the CRM system to plan recruitment initiatives, record data, conduct data analysis, and run reports on prospect and applicant communications.
  • Mines data on the progress and origin of applications and provides timely reports on yield rates by region and event type to inform and enhance future initiatives.
  • In consultation with the IMBA Recruitment Manager, evaluates the outcomes of recruiting activities and prepares post-event reports with recommendations for improvements.
  • Executes administrative activities related to IMBA recruitment and the Shanghai Office under the guidance of the IMBA Recruitment Manager.
  • Sets personal goals in discussion with the IMBA Recruitment Manager, aligned with program milestones and OKRs.

Other Duties

  • Provides coverage for the IMBA Program Administrator during periods of absence (e.g., vacation, sick leave).
  • May supervise work-learn students.
  • Other responsibilities.

Consequence of Error

This position is integral to achieving the student enrolments required for each IMBA class. Any inappropriate action could jeopardize the reputation and quality of the program. The incumbent exercises considerable judgment and must demonstrate tact and discretion, based on a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures of the University and the Sauder School of Business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., marketing, psychology, public relations, business) and a minimum of two years of related experience. Experience in recruiting or academic advising is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the higher education industry and professional graduate programs is an asset. Familiarity with major international educational systems is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with digital marketing campaigns, including planning, execution, monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with paid social media advertising, particularly WeChat Ads and RedNote Ads, including campaign setup, budget monitoring, audience targeting, and basic performance analysis.
  • Proficient in enterprise-level CRM and information systems (e.g., Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Tableau).
  • Strong knowledge of online communication and learning platforms, including webinars and social media.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and a data-driven mindset.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and diplomacy; tactful in dealing with prospective students, staff, and faculty in a multicultural setting.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
  • Experience in event planning and execution; able to manage external stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a high-functioning team in a fast-paced, KPI-driven environment. Ability to take initiative and exercise resourcefulness.
  • Attendance at some evening and weekend events, and overtime during peak periods, can be expected.
  • Excellent English and Chinese (Mandarin) communication skills (written and oral) are required. Fluency in a third language would be an asset.
