A community-focused art space about the size of a postage stamp, promoting what they call "comprehensive urban regeneration." It's run by the postgraduate department of Architecture at Tongji University, The idea is to renovate spaces around Shanghai and re-use them as multi purpose gallery spaces. Donghulu is the first one they have renovated so far. In effect, it's a like an artsy guidebook-in-room-format outlining information regarding this one sub-district in Xuhui, Hengfu, which is the 1.2 square-kilometer area roughly outlined by Changle Lu, Shaanxi Nan Lu, Xingguo Lu, Huaihai Zhong Lu, and Fuxing Zhong Lu. They're most addressing the ongoing preservation/renovation efforts in the area. They also have a map of the sub-district where guests can tack on their "best memories." It's a nice little spot, stop by for a peek at what's happening to the neighborhood.
