Once upon a time Wan Xiang Du had positioned itself as a luxury Hunan restaurant, where you could splash out on abalone stir-fried with green chilis, but the reality of its crappy, forlorn location on the second floor of a small retail annex in Gubei have not been kind to Wan Xiang Du. Nonetheless, what the kitchen turnes out is impressive, and they are offering unique dishes not found in most Hunan restaurants. Wan Xiang Du holds out the promise of authenticity, however slippery that concept may be, along with a 9.1 rating for flavor on Dianping, the highest rating there is for Hunan restaurants (it shares the honor with Yu Li Xiang and others).
