Hangzhou International School (HIS) is a truly unique International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that offers both an academic and well-rounded learning experience beyond the classroom. We are a full IB Continuum School, serving children of foreign nationals in Early Years through Grade 12, ranging from ages 2 to 18. HIS uses the IB Learner Profile as a guide for helping to develop student attributes so that we may nurture their ability to use a variety of necessary soft skills, including communication, thinking, self-management, research, and social skills. Furthermore, we encourage mindful approaches to resilience, perseverance, inquiry, and being a principled and balanced individual. Students in Early Years to Grade 5 follow the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), students in Grades 6 to 10 engage in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and students in Grades 11 to 12 work towards two diplomas: the WASC-accredited High School Diploma and IB Diploma (DP).
Hangzhou International School (HIS) offers over 100 Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) to almost all our students, from our young learners in Kindergarten through to Grade 12. The Co-curricular program allows students to develop talents in an environment that promotes the growth of leadership and communication skills all while being hands-on and engaging, whether that is physical, creative, social, or community based, including a diverse range of activities such as Robotics, Jiu-jitsu, Chess Club, West Lake Model MUN, or Ceramics.
In addition, we have our many team sports, which include the main four: basketball, volleyball, football (soccer), and swimming, alongside many others such as table tennis, floor hockey, tennis, cross country running, track and field, cricket, golf and touch rugby.
At HIS we are proud to be part of a larger network of schools' activities associations that provide students with opportunities to compete and network in other cities throughout China and in countries beyond. These include HISAC (competition for Hangzhou schools), SISAC (mainly Shanghai schools and others in eastern China), and ACAMIS (China-wide).
Reviewed every year, the activities are well-funded and run by our staff alongside select external providers, with the program overseen by our Director of Activities who helps set clear goals and rationales for each activity, organizes domestic and international events, and ensures all activities help to build confidence, teamwork, and healthy competition.
We currently do not have a scholarship program, but interested families are encouraged to contact our admissions department directly to discuss their own particular arrangements.
Tuition fees range from 200,000rmb to RMB262,500rmb per year depending on age, with additional joining fees. For full details, please view the fees page on the HIS website.
HIS has a dedicated fleet of school buses that provide transport to and from school for students. Pickup and drop-off points are convenient, with seatbelts provided on all buses, as well as a Chinese bus monitor alongside the driver. In addition, we also provide buses for students involved in afterschool Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs). There is an additional annual payment required to use the bus service, please see the fees page on the website.
