Opened in 1922 as Shenjiang Grand Theatre, this historic Huangpu venue has gone through nearly a century of changes, from a movie theater to a workers’ cultural venue and now a modern performing arts space. After its renovation and reopening in 2023, the theater kept its original Art Deco details, brick walls, and old Shanghai charm while adding updated facilities for contemporary performances. Operated by Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre, the 618-seat theater now hosts plays, musicals, and cultural events, bringing a mix of classic and contemporary performances to the heart of the city.
