Real old school Shanghai joint right here, now in its fifth iteration as of August 2026. The House of Blues and Jazz originally opened on Sinan Lu in 1995 then moved around several times, including a long residency on the Bund from 2008-2026. It's a reliable spot for nightly live music, with lots of funk and soul standards (Motown, etc). Music differs depending on the night though because they don't have a resident band. Drinks are Bund prices, so expect to pay around 80rmb and up for beers and into the low 100s for some cocktails. There is never a cover though, so you're paying for the band, too. Crowd is a mix of tourists, locals, and old hands, and skews slightly older. It's very approachable and down to earth, and a fine place to stop in after a night wandering around the city. Good for groups, dates, or solo.
