The setting is a bit scuzzy, the servers surly and unattentive. But Chaoshan does great Chaozhou style congee. It comes to the table piping hot in a claypot and there is enough to fill 2 or three bellies. An a la carte topping menu features everything from whole crabs to black chicken to abalones. Supplementing the congee is a menu of stir-fried vegetables, Chaozhou style salty chicken and more. The place closes at 4am too, making it a great stop on the way from a bar-hopping expedition.
