Crystal Jade is a chain from Singapore that beats the pants off of most other Canto restaurants in Shanghai. It's a combination of stylish decor and great cooking -- dim sum, in particular, is wildly popular. Chain or no chain, it's one of Shanghai's top Cantonese restaurants, and the crowds bear that out. Xintiandi's store is the flagship, and often considered the best.

The first impression was very good as the Hostess attended me well and spoke enough English to understand my wishes, wich I appreciate a lot as I noticed that most Chinese Waiters do not understand beyond the standard questions.
I went there alone so I was set on a large table what I appreciated as I don't like to be alone on a couple table... The menu is structured in a very interesting way as you have the different types of chinese regions what was really interesting as I do not know wich region has wich specialities and I am not at all a Chinese food specialist.
The waitress asked me very friendly about a tea wich I appreciated taking some time to study the menu. Unfortunately the English skill of my friendly waitress was low (my expectations where high after meeting the hostess) so I has to decide by myself hoping the waitress got it right.
The food was OK but I was a little bit disappointed as I had very good Chinese food and what I had there tasted good but not special. The portion was very big and the price was more than fair.
I would never go there on a date or alone but I will give it another try with my friends from Europe as the menu is very interesting and the price very fair.

A good choice if a bunch of HK friends who are working in SH and miss "yum cha" occasionally. The venue is decoration is good. Food is ok. Advanced booking is recommended during lunch time, especially on weekends. A bit noisy though. Now more prefer the branch in New World Center
