Crystal Jade is a chain from Singapore that's consistently packed for its combination of stylish decor and Cantonese cooking. Dim sum, in particular, is wildly popular. Most people go for the crispy pork belly, the roast pork, shrimp dumplings, mango pudding, and even xiao long bao. Xintiandi's store is the flagship, and often considered the best. Reservations are essential.

I can't believe I am writing a review for this place.

Here's the deal. It isn't good anymore, or maybe never was but we just tolerated it because there was nothing better.

Took a buddy who grew up here and was back for a quick trip last weekend for dinner.

Ordered the goose, suckling pig, preserved egg w/ginger, beef w/youtao, jilan w/ oyster sauce. Their standards. The classics. The stuff they should just be able to "phone in" like Robert Dinero in a family comedy.

We look at each other and we're like "f*ck". This is costing us like 120 USD and we could be eating better versions of the same food for half the price in SF, Vancouver, or Flushing. Crystal Jade, take. your. game. up.

Service was fast and efficient and they did manage to bring cold beer.

If you looking for the Golden State Warriors of the Shanghai canto game take your time and money to Xin Rong Ji @ Infiniti Plaza or Imperial Treasure (there's only one I think).

My girlfriends mum cooks Chinese Food for me 24/7, so it is not often that I need to eat out at a Chinese Restaurant. In fact, if she found out that I ate Chinese food other than hers I am sure she would be heart-broken.

So without her knowing we headed to Crystal Jade to try some Cantonese Food. I checked the positive posts on this site and would have to agree that it serves up some of the tastiest chinese food.

The staff spoke English, and were very helpful suggesting some of the best dishes to try. I had the egg tofu, beans in minced pork, Yangzhou fried rice and some soup. The Sichuan soup has a real kick to it - beware. However it was the fried diced pork with mustard and sweet sauce that really got my tastebuds moving - so fatty and succulent that I didn\'t want to share it with my girlfriend.

Two people will set you back around 200rmb (pretty good considering it is in the Xintiandi). In my opinion, the place is more suitable for a dinner for two (a lot of couples there). Is it worth going back? I will probably take my Australian friends there when they arrive in Shanghai.

Once you get over the mall-like atmosphere (hey we are in China aren\'t we?) you will find no better Cantonese/Chinese dining experience for the money.

Consistent, authentic and foreigner friendly, you may find yourself eating here 2-3 times a week.

Crystal Jade hails from Singapore and it shows through its unique blend of many feels including classy, family and Hong Kong food. Its really not bad, the XiaoLongBaos are good, as well as the menu items. But nothing\'s really overwhelming through my experience. Great to meet with friends or a casual business meeting. Sweet ambience, and friendly staff as well.

This Cantonese restaurant is really worth a visit if you need a fix for some cantonese dim sum, variety and ambience. But you know what? I really prefer Cha\'s. No such Dim Sum, but more of a Hong Kong feel.

I'm surprised the earlier reviews aren't higher. I dropped by this spot a while back after reading in Frommer's that Crystal Jade had Shanghai's best xiaolongbao and went with a friend who is a die-hard Ding Tai Feng fan. The soup buns had the thinnest skin I've found anywhere, and the pork inside had more flavor than Ding Tai Feng. Which one you prefer will depend on personal preference, but this place impressed me beyong my expectations for sure. As for the rest of the dim sum, I thought it was great. Maybe we just got lucky with what we ordered, but our meal turned out to be a study in textures, with the fried fish being incredibly light and crispy and the turnip cake similarly surprisingly airy. Service is a bit brusque, but if you're looking for a fast meal, at least this attitude gets you in and out quickly.

The first impression was very good as the Hostess attended me well and spoke enough English to understand my wishes, wich I appreciate a lot as I noticed that most Chinese Waiters do not understand beyond the standard questions.

I went there alone so I was set on a large table what I appreciated as I don't like to be alone on a couple table... The menu is structured in a very interesting way as you have the different types of chinese regions what was really interesting as I do not know wich region has wich specialities and I am not at all a Chinese food specialist.
The waitress asked me very friendly about a tea wich I appreciated taking some time to study the menu. Unfortunately the English skill of my friendly waitress was low (my expectations where high after meeting the hostess) so I has to decide by myself hoping the waitress got it right.

The food was OK but I was a little bit disappointed as I had very good Chinese food and what I had there tasted good but not special. The portion was very big and the price was more than fair.

I would never go there on a date or alone but I will give it another try with my friends from Europe as the menu is very interesting and the price very fair.

A good choice if a bunch of HK friends who are working in SH and miss "yum cha" occasionally. The venue is decoration is good. Food is ok. Advanced booking is recommended during lunch time, especially on weekends. A bit noisy though. Now more prefer the branch in New World Center
