It’s a busy month to be a socially mobile Brit. First off, there is a networking event at the Consulate specifically for British entrepreneurs this Thursday (the 11th). It’s open to the public, by which they mean, it is open to British entrepreneurs in Shanghai who RSVP to the man (Stephen.baron@fco.gov.uk). If you fit that sliver of a demographic, what do you get? Drinks! Drinks on the government’s expense account! Oh, and talks from successful British entrepreneurs who will share their China experience. And networking. There is always networking! That’s on Thursday the 11th. After that, it’s Best of Britain. What?

That’s right. It’s a big, commercial, national exhibition for all things British. Gin and tonics (at the Hayman’s G&T Bar), the Cream Tea Pavilion, fashion shows, and “The most Instagramable restaurants of London, the traditional afternoon tea of Claridge’s and the Rosewood Hotel in London.” Big promises. Will they deliver? Beyond that, they also promise Great British Brands from interior & design, education & lifestyle, technology & innovation, and fashion & leisure categories. It’s basically a way to window-shop the country and feel all proud of everything it’s accomplished since the invention of steam power. That’s happening October 20-21 and tickets are available on the door for 200rmb per person, or 300rmb for two people.
