On March 3 of every year, in the season of the peach blossom in full bloom here, the traditional Longhua Temple Fair is held ceremoniously. This fair is said to date back to the Ming Dynasty and takes place at the largest, most active Buddhist temple in Shanghai. This grand Buddhist ceremony is marked by dozens of stalls offering paper-cutting, calligraphy, vegetarian food, street theater and more. Incense-bearing supplicants abound.
