Francesco Clemente: The Chinese Shadows
In his second exhibition at James Cohan's Shanghai gallery, Italian talent Francesco Clemente showcases a series of prints created throughout his career, specifically exploring portraiture. In The Chinese Shadows monotypes, Clemente delves into the metaphysical self, as well as ancient Chinese philosophical principles of yin and yang. Expect familiar Chinese motifs - flowing red ribbons, pomegranates suggesting small handheld lanterns, and the twelve heavenly creatures of the Chinese zodiac - all executed in a defined palette of red, black and gray.
