Shanghai artist Shi Yong has long been a pillar of China's contemporary scene. His mixed media work addresses cultural identity, the power of language and cultural pluralism, as well as his home city in relation to modernism and consumerism. Here, he presents a brand new site-specific installation developed around the notions of space, material and language. Shi himself explains, “I like to decompose narration by embedding a certain vocabulary, within a narrative context, until it becomes another language.” Should be good.
