"I have become fascinated with those fleeting moments: faces of laughter, confusion, doubts and empty stares, which now only exist in distant memories. I am what the motherland made me to be, and what I create is to appreciate the beauty that surrounds me and made me." This exhibition will showcase Shen's latest works including: portraits, oceans, apples and hands. In the portraits, the aritst's already well-known theme, Shen has used heavier and more prominent colours, which demonstrates his growing optimism in 2007.

This exhibition will show off for the very first time Shen's new paintings of the ocean; the subject was born after his frequent visits to the States and boating trips he took this year. As with his portraits, in this new subject Shen also painted a veil like water drips which appear to be the first layer of the painting. The repetitive use of water further emphasizes Shen's idea of cleansing and calming of the mind. In his twenty years of being an artist, he never stopped to search for peace of mind, innocence and simplicity. This year, Shen Xiaotong's works not only show his optimistic attitude but also a maturity of mind.

Shen Xiaotong was born in 1968 in Chengdu, China. He graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Printmaking Department. Shen Xiaotong has been exhibited in various solo and group shows in both China and abroad for over twenty years. He currently lives and works in Chengdu, China.

This exhibition will take place from the 22nd December 2007 through to the 20th January 2008.
