Spiritual jazz by way of North Indian music and hip-hop - Jaubi - the seven-piece instrumental outfit from Pakistan - is one of the finest in their class. Marrying the free-form improvisation of Hindustani classical and jazz with the free-wheeling sampling of contemporary neo-soul and hip hop, the band mixes in everything from Indian classical ragas (with instruments like the tabla and the string instrument sarangi joining in on the fun) to the spiritual high-wire jazz fluidity of Yusuf Lateef and John Coltrane.
