This exhibition marks the first large-scale presentation of the Pompidou Center's photography collection in China, featuring nearly 200 pioneering works by avant-garde artists from both the East and the West. The lineup includes pieces by Man Ray, Cindy Sherman, Wolfgang Tillmans, Andreas Gursky, John Baldessari, Jin Shisheng, Zhang Huan, RongRong, Song Yongping, and more than 30 other artists. The exhibition delves into the heart of contemporary art, celebrating diverse forms of artistic expression. It will review a decisive 30-year period in photography, highlighting its rise as a mainstream medium in contemporary art. Through ten sections, it traces the avant-garde history of photography’s transformation from documenting the artistic process to becoming an independent art form.
