Escapism of the highest order! Shibusashirazu Orchestra, formed by bassist Daisuke Fuwa in 1989 as a free jazz orchestra, return to Shanghai after their rapturous reception last year. A multimedia jazz performance group consisting of over twenty musicians, as well as Butoh dancers, modern dancers, theater actors, and artists, they create a sprawling, dynamic sound that stems from the jazz and funk movement of the 60s, with the influence of 80s punk and no wave, as well as the unruly spirit of rock and roll. A gorgeous symphony of chaotic creative energy - a hurricane of activity, art, and music equal parts uproarious and transcendent - there’s nothing quite like it. The band will be performing back-to-back shows - with the first night at Singer Space showcasing and putting the spotlight on the orchestra’s Shibuya-kei female artists - who will be leading the highly ritualistic and expressive live performance. Then at next night at Modernsky Lab all bets on off - with the group pulling out all the stops.
