Beijing’s art punks Wasted Laika, known for their evocative charismatic, and rustic rock and roll, returned stronger than ever with their sophomore LP Red Butterfly, Green Peacock earlier this year. More ambitious, more mature, its bittersweet romanticism seems ageless, and its raw poise feels lived-in - with a chamber pop twang (with a touch of surf rock by way of the Eastern Bloc) that grounds their sound. With instrumentation that resonates deeper, looser, and more invigorated yet without losing its melodic drive, it surprises throughout - filled with illustrious amplitude and rich theatricality. The band returns to Shanghai as part of their nationwide tour.
