After nine long years, the cult-favorite German-language musical MOZART! is making a return to Shanghai—but with a twist. This time, it’s a concert version of the original musical, blending live symphonic performance, theatrical visuals, and all the drama of the original production. The 18-show run kicks off at Shanghai Culture Square starting late November.

A concert version of the original German musical MOZART!, featuring key scenes and musical numbers performed live with symphony orchestra, visual projections, and original costumes. Lead role performed by Samuel Jonathan Bertz.

MOZART! is a groundbreaking German-language musical that reimagines the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart beyond the myth of the “child prodigy.” Written by Michael Kunze and composed by Sylvester Levay, the musical first premiered in Vienna in 1999 and quickly became a milestone in German musical theater. It explores Mozart’s inner struggles between genius and humanity, framed through dynamic rock- and pop-infused classical melodies.

After a sold-out debut in Shanghai in 2016, the show returns in 2025 in a newly conceived concert format. Expect an immersive experience: original Vienna costumes, a full live orchestra, large LED visuals, and a top-tier German cast. Leading the cast is Samuel Jonathan Bertz as Mozart, a rising star in the European musical theater world. This production follows the success of Elisabeth and Rebecca concert versions in recent years and promises to be a highlight of Shanghai’s year-end cultural calendar.
