Shanghai’s own LakiPak brings their genre-blending grooves to Lincoln Jazz Center for an immersive night of original fusion. Expect a mix of jazz, soul, R&B, hip-hop, and funk, woven together by some of the city’s top musicians. This show dives deep into their twin EPs HERE and BEYOND, a journey through rhythm, color, and feeling.
LakiPak is a contemporary fusion band born in Shanghai, shaped by the city’s multicultural pulse. Their sound blends jazz, soul, R&B, electronic, hip-hop, and pop influences, showcasing a collective of some of Shanghai’s most exceptional musicians. Since their formation, LakiPak has earned recognition both in China and abroad, performing on major stages and releasing a growing body of original work, including studio and live recordings produced at One Dream Studio and VAS Studio in Shanghai.
At Lincoln Jazz Center Shanghai, LakiPak invites audiences into a dual universe through their two EPs, HERE and BEYOND—a journey told through seven tracks of rhythm and color.
The experience begins with “The Loudest Silence”, where Middle Eastern motifs meet hip-hop grooves. “Sun-Day” follows with warm neo-soul tones inspired by classic R&B. The tension rises with “Clap-Clap”, a playful mix of guitar riffs and hooks that finally dissolves into “Hungry Ghost”, the band’s only instrumental piece—a vast and restless soundscape echoing the spirits of Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana.
“Push/Pull”, written by Artem Dubyna, dances between tight funk rhythms and lush harmonies. Guest vocalist Sharanya Das brings a fresh layer of soul to “Just Say It”, marking a new chapter in the band’s creative direction—melodic, spacious, and rhythmically alive. The finale, “ANNEI”, closes with a dreamy blend of bossa nova and funk, led by tender guitar lines and warm phrasing.
Between HERE and BEYOND, LakiPak finds balance between earth and sky—anchored in groove, reaching toward harmony and exploration.
“As our guitarist Nick Aliev says, every song is its own miniature universe. This project is us—in motion, in dialogue, in rhythm.”
