Spring Festival is coming, and while Shanghai winds down for the holidays, U Smarty Pants is running a program that pairs foreigners with local families for an inside look at how the New Year is actually celebrated at home. Every family does it differently—regional traditions, big home-cooked meals, temple fairs, New Year’s Eve dinners, and all the small rituals that usually stay behind closed doors. Participants fill out a short survey and get matched with a family, plus a quick “survival Chinese” crash course to help you navigate the visit.
