Kick off the Lunar New Year with South China Lion and Dragon Dance Troupe! Expect jaw-dropping lion acrobatics, glowing dragons, and interactive moments that bring this centuries-old tradition to life. From plum blossom pole stunts to giant lanterns weaving through the audience, it’s a 60-minute spectacle the whole family will love.
“Dominating the Top: Lion and Dragon Festival” brings the magic of traditional Guangdong lion dance to Shanghai for 2026. The performance combines dance, martial arts, acrobatics, and music, showcasing the South Lion, recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This year, the troupe presents some of the world’s most difficult lion dance feats, including the legendary Plum Blossom Pole stunts, alongside heritage ao fish lanterns and dazzling dragon displays. The show blends traditional craftsmanship with modern stage design, making the lions and dragons feel alive, playful, and full of personality.
Families and children will not only witness a high-energy performance but can also explore a small exhibition on lion dance culture and shop for beautifully crafted cultural souvenirs.
Performance Times:
Recommended Age: 3+

This isn’t your usual traditional performance. The lions wink, roar, and even do a little dance! The custom lion heads have movable eyes, mouths, and ears, showing expressions that switch from majestic kings of the jungle to playful, huggable pets.

Prepare for high-flying stunts on the Plum Blossom Poles, showcasing balance, strength, and years of disciplined practice. Glowing dragons twist and soar above the audience, combining light, movement, and color into a spellbinding spectacle.
Kids and adults can warm up with the troupe, take part in pre-show exercises, and get up close to the lions during the performance. Touch the lion’s head, admire the detailed armor, and feel the energy and blessings of the Lunar New Year firsthand.
After the show, visit the theater shop to take home lucky souvenirs—so the celebration continues even after the curtain falls.
