Madrid Flamenco Theatre brings its signature production of Carmen to the stage, presenting the story through pure flamenco dance, live music, and song. Built around intense movement, striking costumes, and live musicians, this version retells the classic tale of love, freedom, and destruction through rhythm and physical expression.

This flamenco dance drama is based on Carmen, one of the most enduring stories in world literature. Told entirely through flamenco dance, live music, and vocals, the production presents a full four-act structure with ten scenes, aiming to remain faithful to the original narrative while using modern stage design, lighting, and choreography.
The story traces Carmen and José’s journey from passion and desire to jealousy, violence, and death. The production stages all major characters from the original novel, unfolding a series of emotional confrontations that explore love, freedom, and fate. Scenes range from flirtation and confrontation to celebration and final reckoning, all driven by flamenco’s physical intensity.
Live onstage, four musicians provide accompaniment, joined by a featured singer whose vocals form an integral part of the performance. Music and movement are tightly interwoven, creating a continuous flow between dance, rhythm, and song.

Founded over 20 years ago, the Madrid Flamenco Theatre is a well-known Spanish flamenco company that frequently performs for official cultural events and international tours. Spanish newspaper ABC has referred to the troupe as “one of the five miracles of the dance world.” The company’s repertoire includes hundreds of preserved works, many of which are widely studied by flamenco dancers worldwide.

Born in 1988, Nuria María trained in Spanish and flamenco dance in Madrid and later continued her studies and professional work in Japan. She joined the Madrid Flamenco Theatre in 2012 and has since performed as the lead Carmen on international tours.

Born in Seville in 1973, Francisco Currea Guzmán began professional dance performance as a teenager and has appeared in festivals, films, and stage productions across multiple countries. He joined the Madrid Flamenco Theatre in 2013 and performs as a lead dancer in Carmen.
This production is known for presenting a complete flamenco interpretation of Carmen, combining dance, live music, and vocals in a single performance. With extensive international touring and a focus on traditional flamenco form alongside modern stage presentation, it offers a concentrated look at the story through Spain’s most recognizable dance tradition.
