A Man Named W is a contemporary dance theatre piece exploring loss, loneliness, and quiet resilience. Through a solo physical performance, it traces one man’s journey after the death of his wife, as small moments of human connection begin to bring him back to life.

At the center of the work is Mr. W, a 65-year-old man whose life once followed a steady, predictable rhythm—work, routine, and the quiet companionship of his wife. When she passes away, that structure collapses, leaving him suspended in an emotional void.

The performance follows his slow, internal journey through grief. Familiar routines become hollow, everyday spaces turn into reminders of absence, and life feels mechanical and heavy. Over time, however, small encounters and subtle acts of kindness begin to seep into his isolated world. These moments gradually rekindle his connection to life, as he learns to move forward within a fractured existence.

Presented as a physical theatre solo, the piece relies entirely on body language, movement, and stage presence to convey emotional depth. Through pauses, breath, and shifting physical states, the performance unfolds an intimate portrait of loss and recovery.

Chen Yudi – Director / Playwright / Performer

This is a stripped-back, intimate piece that focuses entirely on the human condition—specifically how people process loss and continue living. With no elaborate staging or dialogue, it relies on physical expression to tell a story many can relate to. For audiences interested in contemporary dance or physical theatre, it offers a quiet but emotionally resonant experience, especially for those drawn to reflective, character-driven performances.
