Description

This large-scale archaeological presentation brings together over 500 artifacts from Gansu, Shaanxi, and Shanghai, reconstructing the Qin’s long transformation from a frontier group in western China to the first unified imperial power. Organized around four interconnected themes, the exhibition unfolds through material evidence uncovered in key archaeological sites, tracing how shifting burial customs, bronze ritual vessels, jade objects, and early state insignia reflect the Qin’s evolving political structures, ritual systems, and cultural identity. From the blending of Zhou, Shang, and local traditions in early eastern Gansu, to the establishment of the Qin state with its ritual bronzes and expanding territorial ambitions, and further into its exchanges with frontier cultures and eventual creation of standardized systems and centralized governance tools, the narrative reveals a civilization shaped by both adaptation and consolidation. Through this accumulation of objects and contexts, the presentation offers a layered reading of how pragmatism, openness, and institutional innovation gradually converged into the foundation of imperial unification.
