French Musical Don Juan returns to Shanghai in April 2026, bringing Félix Gray’s French-language musical back to the stage. Set in Seville, the show retells the Don Juan legend through music and flamenco-inflected dance, following a libertine nobleman who ultimately sacrifices his life for love.
Don Juan is a French musical composed by Félix Gray in 2003 and staged in 2004 by Gilles Maheu, the director of Notre-Dame de Paris. Inspired by Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Tirso de Molina’s The Abuser of Seville, the production reimagines Don Juan as a figure torn between desire and faith.
The story unfolds in the ancient Spanish city of Seville. Don Juan, a young nobleman known for his romantic escapades and disbelief in true love, meets Maria, a sculptor, and falls for her at first sight. His pursuit of love ultimately leads to a fatal duel. The production is known for its distinctive musical language, strong Spanish atmosphere, and the use of flamenco dance.

The musical has been staged internationally for over 20 years and has seen successful runs in France, Canada, South Korea, and Shanghai. Its 2026 return offers audiences another chance to experience this French-language production that blends romanticism, Spanish influences, and flamenco-driven storytelling.
