Le Tartuffe ou L’Hypocrite is a live HD screening of Molière’s most satirical play, exploring deception, hypocrisy, and family dynamics. Directed by renowned European director Ivo van Hove, the production is performed by the Comédie-Française and features Denis Podalydès, Christophe Montenez, and Marina Hands. The screening is in French with Chinese subtitles and is not a live performance.

The story follows wealthy Orgon, who welcomes the devout Tartuffe into his household as a spiritual guide. Tartuffe, however, falls for Orgon’s wife Elmire, leading to hypocrisy, deception, and family chaos. This original three-act version, censored after its 1664 premiere, focuses on Orgon and Elmire’s relationship and critiques both spiritual devotion and domestic authority.
This revival is directed by Ivo van Hove, known for innovative adaptations of classics like Roman Tragedies and A View from the Bridge, and performed by the Comédie-Française. All screenings are in HD, not live performances.
This HD screening provides a rare opportunity to see the original censored version of Tartuffe, reconstructed by Ivo van Hove. Audiences can witness a sharp, modernized interpretation of Molière’s satire, exploring hypocrisy, faith, and family in a fresh, thought-provoking way.
