This is an HD screening of the National Theatre’s production of Frankenstein, directed by Danny Boyle. Filmed live in London, this version features Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature, in the acclaimed stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel.

Based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, Frankenstein follows Victor Frankenstein, a scientist obsessed with creating life. His experiment succeeds, but the being he brings into the world is rejected and feared. Initially gentle and eager for acceptance, the Creature is gradually driven toward violence by cruelty and isolation, setting creator and creation on a destructive collision course.
This stage adaptation was directed by Danny Boyle and first premiered at the National Theatre in 2011, where it sold out performances and drew wide attention. The production is known for its stark theatrical imagery and its focus on the mirrored relationship between Frankenstein and the Creature, exploring responsibility, rejection, and the dual nature of humanity.
Both actors jointly won the 2011 Olivier Award for Best Actor for their performances in this production.
This screening captures one of the National Theatre’s most talked-about productions, directed by an Oscar-winning filmmaker and led by two widely acclaimed performances. Presented as a filmed stage work, it offers audiences the chance to experience this modern theatrical interpretation of Frankenstein in high definition.
Please note: this is an HD screening of a recorded stage performance, not a live show.
