French architect Jean Nouvel is bringing more than five decades of architectural practice to Shanghai in his first solo exhibition held inside a building he designed himself. The exhibition explores Nouvel’s approach to architecture through videos, models, archives, installations and a recreation of his studio, featuring projects from throughout his career including the Philharmonie de Paris, the National Museum of Qatar and the Pudong Art Museum. Beyond displaying architectural works, the exhibition turns the museum itself into part of the experience — from the mirrored corridors reflecting the Bund skyline to the framed views of Lujiazui and the geometric details of the interior spaces. Known for his use of light, materials and site-specific design, Nouvel invites visitors to experience architecture not just as a structure, but as an environment shaped by its surroundings.
