Tenor Mark Padmore and pianist Dame Imogen Cooper will present Franz Schubert’s Winterreise in a complete performance on April 3, 2026, at the Cadillac Shanghai Concert Hall. This concert marks the duo’s first appearance in Shanghai, following acclaimed collaborations at venues such as Wigmore Hall.

Winterreise is regarded as one of the most important song cycles in the German art song tradition, known for its profound union of poetry and music and its emotionally demanding dialogue between voice and piano. Although often associated with lower voice types, the work was originally written for tenor, where the brightness of the vocal line creates a striking contrast with the cycle’s themes of solitude and emotional desolation.

The concert will present all 24 songs of Winterreise, tracing the journey from the quiet departure of “Gute Nacht” to the haunting conclusion of “Der Leiermann.” The performance runs approximately 75 minutes without intermission.

Mark Padmore is widely regarded as one of the leading tenors of his generation, with an international career spanning opera, symphonic repertoire, and recital performance.
