Massimiliano Rolff Trio, led by Italian jazz bassist Massimiliano Rolff, brings together pianist Manuel Magrini and drummer Antonio Fusco for a live performance. The trio will present new works created for the centennial of John Coltrane’s birth, alongside jazz repertoire performed with improvisation and fresh arrangements. The concert highlights the group’s collaborative energy and expressive sound.

About the Performance

Massimiliano Rolff Trio is a contemporary jazz ensemble from Italy led by bassist Massimiliano Rolff. For this tour, the trio presents new compositions created to mark the centennial of John Coltrane’s birth.

The program combines tribute and reinterpretation, using arrangement and improvisation to revisit jazz traditions while exploring new sonic possibilities. Through rhythmic interplay and melodic passages, the trio creates a performance centered on both energy and lyrical expression.

Performers

Massimiliano Rolff – Bass

Massimiliano Rolff is an Italian jazz bassist, composer, and arranger whose work is rooted in jazz tradition while incorporating his own creative perspective. He has performed across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, appearing in jazz clubs, festivals, theatres, and cultural institutions worldwide.

Since 2006 he has released nine albums as a bandleader, including Unit Five (2006), Naked (2009), More Music (2012), Scream! (2016), Italian Life in Contemporary Time (2016), Cubiculum (2017), Home Feeling (2018), Gershwin on Air (2021), and Adventures on Magia (2023). He founded the Count Basie Jazz Club in Genoa in 2008 and currently serves as professor of jazz bass and head of the jazz department at the Piacenza Jazz Conservatory.

Manuel Magrini – Piano

Born in Assisi in 1990, Manuel Magrini studied classical and jazz piano at the F. Morlacchi Conservatory in Perugia, graduating with top honors. He later completed a master’s degree in jazz at the same institution.

Magrini has performed internationally at major venues and festivals including Umbria Jazz Festival, Torino Jazz Festival, Casa del Jazz in Rome, and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. His recordings include Unexpected (2016), Dreams (2020), and Inner Pictures (2025). He is also active as an educator, teaching at the F. Morlacchi Conservatory in Perugia, Silpakorn University in Bangkok, and CENART in Mexico City.

Antonio Fusco – Drums

Antonio Fusco is a European jazz drummer known for his distinctive and original style. His playing incorporates elements of rock, blues, jazz, and experimental music.

He has collaborated with international musicians including Tim Berne, Nick Hampton, Yuhan Su, Paolo Fresu, Tino Tracanna, and Li Gao Yang. In 2017 he was invited to teach jazz drums at the Beijing Modern Music Academy while continuing to perform internationally.
