Short-term Histories marks Peng Zuqiang’s first institutional solo show in Asia and turns its attention to fragile, short-lived media histories. Centered on newly commissioned multi-channel video works, including a piece inspired by 8.75mm film formats circulated in China from the 1960s to the 1980s, the exhibition reflects on how images are produced, transmitted, and lost. Peng approaches film as both a material and a historical constraint, using experimental techniques to question linear narratives and the authority of official archives. Rather than reconstructing complete histories, the works linger on gaps, silences, and rumors, allowing fragmented memories to surface through light, texture, and time-based image-making.
